About us

Supporting Communities Together is a not for profit organisation dedicated to supporting and protecting the wellbeing of children and young people.

Our story began with a shared belief: that no child should fall through the cracks, and that the people who dedicate their lives to care, whether as foster carers or community workers, deserve strong support.

We provide a mix of direct care services for vulnerable children and tailored operational support to other not for profits, helping them sustain their impact.

We lead with the heart. Our work is shaped by lived experience, guided by compassion, and grounded in community.

We centre children in everything we do, because healing begins with care.

Supporting Communities Together (SCT) delivers high-quality, trauma-informed care and support services to children, young people, carers, and families. Our approach is grounded in the CARE model (Children and Residential Experiences: Creating Conditions for Change), an evidence-based framework developed by Cornell University, which emphasises the importance of relationships, developmentally informed practice, and creating conditions for positive change.

SCT’s primary role is the direct delivery of care services, with a smaller component of our work focused on providing back-of-house support to a select group of aligned for-purpose and not-for-profit organisations.

Our Services include:

Foster Care Programs

We provide Foster Care Programs for children and young people who are unable to live safely with their birth families. SCT is responsible for the recruitment, training, assessment, and ongoing support of foster carers. Our team ensures that every placement is safe, stable, and therapeutic, with a focus on maintaining connections to family, culture, and community wherever possible.

Therapeutic Care Programs

Our Therapeutic Care Programs support children and young people with complex needs in residential and community-based settings. These programs are staffed by trained Therapeutic Support Workers and guided by the CARE framework to ensure environments are safe, predictable, and responsive to the developmental needs of each young person. Individualised therapeutic support plans are informed by multidisciplinary input and cultural considerations.

Support for Carers & Families

We recognise the critical role of carers and families in the wellbeing of children and young people. SCT provides a range of supports including:

  • Training and ongoing professional development for carers

  • Short term, long term, and respite care services and practical supports

  • Access to therapeutic and allied health services

  • Culturally safe engagement with families and communities to support restoration or ongoing connection

Community-Based Healing

Healing and growth are fostered through strong relationships and community connection. SCT delivers programs that support social, emotional, and cultural healing including:

  • Group-based programs and mentoring

  • Trauma-informed community activities

  • Partnerships with Aboriginal community-controlled organisations and culturally diverse groups

These programs are localised and developed in consultation with the communities we serve.
